Home Made Protein Energy Bars

 In Nutrition on the Go

These are high protein energy bars anyone can make in a few minutes. As someone who would much rather know what’s in the food he consumes, I much prefer to make my own whenever possible. It’s not that I am a whizkid in the kitchen, it’s that over the years, I have learnt that many snacks which may come across as healthy and natural, contain a load of unpronounceable ingredients.

Usually, as a rule of thumb, the more unpronounceable ingredients, the less likely it is to be super healthy. So, the best option for that is to make your own.

Energy Protein Bars Recipe

I was in the kitchen the other day and decided to test some high protein bars out, check the ingredients out, all healthy stuff and even better still….it took me just a few minutes to make!

  • 240 gr oats
  • 15 gr 100% cacao
  • 15 gr peanut butter
  • 80 ml Soya Milk

Mix it all together, split into equal sized portions, I split mine into 8, this is what the macros are based on.

Leave in the fridge or freezer for a few hours and enjoy. What took me the longest was doing the washing up!

There are a couple of improvements which can be made to this recipe. One option being to add either honey, maple syrup or golden syrup to the mix. By doing this it will give it a bit of a smoother texture as well as making it a bit sweeter. The other option is to add some raisins or dried fruit to it instead of syrups.

There are loads of variations and other types of energy bars which can be made at home very easily. I always try and opt for the ones that are simplest to make as well as having the healthiest ingredients.

It is a bit pointless to invest many hours exercising then counteracting that effect by having something unhealthy!
